WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department’s U-Turn Power Luncheon at UNCW welcomed back North Carolina native Tawana Williams, who was born without arms and impaired use of her legs.

The purpose of the event was to help steer both youth and adults in a positive direction.

Williams shared her story of struggles, determination and accomplishment. She used her personal obstacles to help others overcome theirs.

“If you want it, you can have it,” Williams said. “I was born without arms. I was blessed to be born without arms. And you know there is nothing you can’t do. If you want it, you can do it.

Despite her physical disability, Williams has learned alternative ways of doing everyday things the rest of us take for granted.

You can read more about her journey in her book “Unarmed and Dangerous.”
