Brunswick County wants back into the Wilmington metropolitan statistical area after commissioners unanimously passed a resolution Monday night requesting it be removed from the Myrtle Beach MSA.

The board has plans to send the resolution to U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, as well as Sens. Richard Burr and Kay Hagan. The next step will be to make a plea to the management and budget office to get the decision reversed.

McIntyre’s office said they will work to get that meeting together, said Jim Bradshaw, Brunswick County Economic Development director.

Now we can justify building the ballpark again.

This is a much bigger deal than a ballpark (which was put out to pasture in the last election).

It will adversely affect any chances of attracting large businesses for economic development, and will also limit the amount of state or federal funding our area can receive.
