LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) – A Raeford man is facing two counts of first-degree murder and other charges in the shooting deaths of his mother and another woman in a Red Springs home.
The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/XTat1k ) that the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Joseph Kelly Matteson was taken into custody upon his release from UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said Kendra Matteson called 911 on Feb. 13 saying her husband was threatening to shoot her. When deputies arrived, Joseph Matteson’s mother and homeowner Kathy Bullard were shot to death.
Bullard’s son, Mark, was shot multiple times, but he and another person wrestled Joseph Matteson to the ground.
Matteson, who suffered head injuries, is being held without bail on the murder charges. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
