WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The paws4people foundation is in it for the long run, helping to enhance the lives of people in our community by providing canine companionship.

The foundation trains and certifies assistance dogs for children, veterans and active-duty military members with disabilities, and this weekend, they're kicking it up a notch by hosting a race at UNC-Wilmington.

Paws4people is hosting a 5k, 10k, and 1 mile fun walk benefit for the foundation, giving the community a chance to explore the university's campus and Cross-City Trails along the way.

Get in on raffles to win donated prizes, and WWAY's Meteorologist Tim Buckley will be there to MC the event.

The race starts Sunday at 9 a.m. at UNCW.

For more information, visit the race's website at paws4people5k.racesonline.com.
