WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Among the stops on the Azalea Festival Historic Home Tour is a house of God.
The Temple of Israel sits on the corner of 4th and Market streets. Its history goes back more than 130 years. It was the first synagogue built in North Carolina, and it's the home to North Carolina's oldest Jewish congregation.
There is as much beauty inside along with the instruments of faith, but it's the architecture of this beautiful building that fascinates many.
The Temple of Israel is located at 1 S. 4th Street. You can see it and the other stops on the Historic Home Tour Saturday and Sunday.
