WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is in jail after being shot in the leg this afternoon in the Port City.

Police responded to a report of shots fired near the 1400 block of Greenfield Street in the Houston Moore community. When officers arrived, they learned someone already had taken the Albert Jamarl Ellis, 25, to the hospital. When officers interviewed Ellis at the hospital, they say his story of what happened differed from a witness told him.

After Ellis was released from the hospital, police arrested him on outstanding warrants for prior charges.

Ellis of Wilmington is charged with assault on a female, larceny and resist/delay/obstruct a public officer. He is in jail without bond pending his first appearance in court tomorrow.

Good since he was shot in the leg, a ball and chain will not be necessary!
