WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) — A 5-year-old girl drowned while swimming in a hotel pool in Wilmington on Friday, a police official said.

Wilmington Police Lt. M.C. Green said the child's relatives found her unconscious and floating in the pool at the Holiday Inn located at 5032 Market Street, near the New Centre Drive intersection.

The police department is not releasing the girl's name because she is a juvenile, Green said.

I’m sure her parents are in a tremendous amount of pain right now and don’t need to see your inqusitive, busy-body remarks!

Where was the family while the 5 year old daughter was swimming? Was someone not swimming with her and or watching her?

I send thoughts and prayers to the family of the little girl.

As a new father, my heart aches for the family’s loss. Prayers sent.

my heartfelt prayers & sympathy go out to the family of this precious young child. May GOD bring them peace & comfort during this difficult time.

It is a legitimate question and one I am sure many have asked.

It isn’t a busy-body remark but a legitimate question because the answer could involve criminal charges such as child neglect or child endangerment. Use your head for more than a place to keep your feel good feelings.

I have the right to raise questions as do the police in all due time.

But like my first comment even stated my thoughts and prayers go to the family for their loss. Any death of a family member is tragic but a child just make it worse.

But you can’t help but wonder why was someone not watching or swimming with her. Report even states relatives found her unconscious and floating in the pool. So how long was she left unattended for? Just doesn’t make sense? Did she wonder off and no one not notice their child was missing? Did they just leave her to swim alone by herself.

My first thought goes to the poor little child that died. My second thought is “where were the parents?” It is definitely an appropriate question.

…but your timing SUCKS! I’m sure the parents are asking themselves the same quest and will until they die.
If you see a man in a wheelchair with both legs missing, do you ask him what he did to get in that condition?
If you see a child with a cast eye, do you ask her which way she is looking and why?
    Evidently so….

The grandmother was actually in the hot tub lounging while she was in the pool…she was unconscious for 5 min before anyone realized she had drowned. Breaks my heart for this little girl and her family!

I received a letter that the school sent out and my children went to school with her I could not imagine your pain of loosing a child and I pray that god be with your family and with the help of god you will get through this I know this is eaiser said than done.

she was not in the hottub…get your facts right

  • lray

Do not be so ignorant. No child should be unattended around water. The area around an indoor pool is not a large area. And even a small child makes a splash, so if there was someone near by they should have known the child was in the pool. To state she was in the water five minutes tells me she was unattended. That should result in criminal charges. God will be with her mother and older sister because they are loved by Christ.

My heart aches when I see these kind of stories. My prayers are with this family… I pray for strength for this family, that they will be strong enough to get through this.
