Former middle school teacher gets 18-year sentence


SWANNANOA, N.C. (AP) - A former Buncombe County middle school teacher is headed to federal prison for producing child pornography and recording videos of students' genitals.

The Ashville Citizen-Times reports ( ) Kevin Mark Calloway was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison and lifelong probation following his release. The 43-year-old math and science teacher at Owens Middle School apologized to the families of victims in federal court after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and another charge.

He faced up to 25 years in prison

Calloway admitted to recording videos of students' genitals with his cell phone as they urinated in the boys' restroom. He also admitted to secretly videotaping children in his own home.

He admitted exchanging sexually explicit messages and videos with students for years.
