Witness: Pa. player's alleged killer sought blacks

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Two North Carolina restaurant workers say a Texas man accused of killing a Pennsylvania high school football player warned he'd shoot any black person who crossed him.

The Herald-Sun of Durham reports ( ) that Emily Donnell testified Friday that 24-year-old Gabriel James Gamez of San Antonio told her he would shoot any black person who said anything to him or his family. They were visiting Durham for his grandmother's funeral.

Gamez is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Darrell Turner, an 18-year-old who was traveling through Durham with a team of all-star football players from the Pittsburgh area. Turner was black.

Earlier in the trial, Turner's teammates testified that as they passed Gamez on their walk back to their hotel, he cursed them with a racial epithet.
