WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man charged with murder in a weekend shooting in New Hanover County spent more than five years behind bars on a similar charge.

Shannon Jerome Mitchell, 29, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Gilbert Lee McClammy, 44, Saturday night. Mitchell is in jail without bond scheduled to make his first court appearance today.

The Department of Corrections website shows Mitchell served five years and seven months for a 2006 conviction for accessory after the fact to a second-degree murder and several drug charges. The crimes happened in 2003, according to records. His sentence ended in July 2011 with his parole ending in April 2012.

Court records show the accessory after the fact charge stemmed from Mitchell throwing away the gun Brian Decarlos Junious used to shoot and killed Wayne Cornelius Mitchell on July 5, 2003.

    By the minute.
This guy doesn’t need life behind bars.
He needs “the juice” put in his arm if convicted for this.
(I wouldn’t waste the electricity for the chair – CO2 emissions are bad)

set a real example for all the street thugs to emulate.

Appoint him “in cage” attendant to the big cats down on Carolina Beach Road. He gets plenty of fresh air and exercise. And at some point, one of the big cats will recycle him into fertilizer.

The system keeps failing us time and time again. How many DUIs before their butt is locked up before they kill someone on the road? How many people have to die before someone is given the death penalty?

One of Eve Carson’s murderers is being re-sentenced because he was a murderer under the age of 17. The girl begged for her life but they shot her in the face anyway….

Politicians that write these laws that allow murderers out of prison just to murder again need to serve time OMO…instead, they sit in their ivory towers looking down on their sheeple…

What was their connection? Did they know each other?

Even the big cats would regurgitate bad food and it wouldn’t make it to the fertilizer stage

    >>>Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws

Only for the law abiding citizens.

Chicago has weak laws for prior felons caught with guns.

Felons caught with guns from two years and they serve:Inmates must complete only half their terms — and sometimes much less after earning “good time” in prison
Emanuel, cops, prosecutors aim for stiffer sentences for gun possession
