WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A driver license office in Wilmington and one in Jacksonville are among several across the state that will now be open on Saturdays starting this weekend.
The NC Division of Motor Vehicles says the new hours are part of an effort to improve customer service and reduce wait times for drivers.
The office at 2390 Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington and 299 Wilmington Highway in Jacksonville will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Starting next week, they’ll also add an extra hour to their weekday schedules and be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Most regular driver license services, including regular road tests, will be offered on Saturdays, with the exception of CDL skills tests, medical re-exams and motorcycle skills tests. Testing services at these offices will be available until 5:30 p.m. weekdays, but regular road tests will not be administered during rush hour.
Fourteen driver license offices statewide now offer the new schedule. The DMV first began expanded hours on March 2 in North Raleigh, West Charlotte and Greenville. Offices in South Fayetteville, South Durham and North Charlotte were added on April 6. As a result of Saturday hours at these six offices, DMV has completed over 2,000 issuances during March and April.
Over the coming months, DMV will announce the participation of additional offices offering expanded hours.
