WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Demolition crews brought down the200-foot tall steel smokestack at New Hanover County’s former WASTEC facility early this morning.

It took crews about 2.5 hours to cut through the steel at the base of the tower.

The rest of the facility will be repurposed as a household hazardous waste collection facility that opens tomorrow.

Crews expect the debris from the tower should be cleared by Thursday.

Albeit not a very interesting story (to me), This is a PERFECT example of kicking the reporters, out of the newsroom, and instructing them to not return until they have a LOCAL story to edit. I would much rather read this story than a “copy and paste” job from another publication. Good Job, Mr. Franklin.
