WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Work on the I-40 bridge in Castle Hayne will mean a detour for drivers starting this weekend.
Beginning Friday NC Department of Transportation crews will begin maintenance work on the I-40 East bridge near mile marker 414 weather permitting.
During the maintenance work, crews will intermittently close the right and left lanes on I-40 East between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to prepare cables to be replaced on the bridge Sunday.
Sunday at 9:30 p.m., crews will close the bridge as they replace cables over the CSX railroad tracks. Closures will take place nightly from 9:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. through Thursday, May 23.
Motorists traveling this stretch of I-40 East will should follow a signed detour using NC 210, US 117 and Holly Shelter Road to avoid the closure.
