WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW Softball is one of the programs on the chopping block. It’s asking supporters to step up to the plate.

Team members have organized an online petition in hopes of saving their up-and-coming team.

Former Laney Buccaneer and current Seahawk Tori Sewell told us what the program means to her.

“The UNCW Softball program is going up with our two new coaches,” Sewell. “There is only good things that can come out of this program. For all of the hard work and the blood and the sweat and the tears that my teammates have put into this program and into Bozeman Field, it would be devastating for it to all go away.”

The petition currently has more than 1,000 signatures.
