WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This morning education leaders, educators and parents met at Robert Strange Pool in Wilmington to speak their minds about the state’s public education system.

Former Congressman and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Bob Etheridge spoke of overcrowding and limited funding in the public schools of North Carolina.

“We can’t go back,” Etheridge said. “We cannot go back. If a businessperson is paying attention, they better be involved in this process making sure education is funded first, because that’s where your work force come from.”

The group Public Schools First NC says North Carolina ranks number 48 in public school funding. That’s the lowest among our neighboring states.
