WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One Cape Fear Community College student got a jump start on his career thanks to a new grant for student veterans who are preparing for jobs in the auto repair industry.

Air Force veteran Kevin Young, who is studying collision repair, received $2,500 in tools from the “Hire Our Heroes” program.

Young says tools usually cost about $2,000 so this grant will really help him rev up his education.

“For me it was great because even though I’ve been buying tools on my own, this will probably take care of most of the tools that I’ll need at least to start off my career,” Young said.

Young also encourages other veterans to learn auto body because his instructors say there are many jobs in the industry.

Launched in January, the “Hire Our Heroes” campaign helps veterans become skilled technicians.
