SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) Students at Shallotte Middle School celebrated Memorial Day Friday.
During the first-ever presentation, students learned why it’s important to get involved in their community and remember those who died for our country.
The KEYS (Keeping Every Youth Successful) program hosted the presentation.
One member, 8th grader Lauren Payne, described what it’s like to help teach her fellow students about Memorial Day.
“It was. There are no words to describe it. All I can say is it was an honor,” Payne said.
Guest speakers included Congressman Mike McIntyre, and Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram.
