HATTERAS, N.C. (AP) – The North Carolina Department of Transportation has cancelled several runs of the ferry between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks for the second time during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Officials said two runs leaving Ocracoke Island on Monday and a run out of Hatteras Island did not take place. The announcement did not say why the ferry had to be shut down.
Officials say the ferries started running again at 3 p.m. Monday.
The Hatteras-Ocracoke route also was suspended for several hours on Friday because of high winds and seas.
