BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Forestry crews in Brunswick County spent most of the afternoon battling a massive wild fire off of Highway 17 near Royal Oak Road in Shallotte.

Forestry officials say it took three plow units, four single engine aircraft tankers and one helicopter to contain the blaze.

Corey Kalmut, a member of the Forest Service, says, “It’s contained right now. We’ll come back tomorrow and check on it and do a little more work but as of right now, it is contained”.

Nearly 100 acres were burned. No buildings were damaged by the fire and there is still no word yet on the cause of the blaze.
