Surfers embrace Tropical Storm Andrea

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Tropical Storm Andrea has made landfall and is heading toward the Carolinas.

As people prepare for the wind and the rain, surfers in the Port City are making the most out of Tropical Storm Andrea. Surfers in Wrightsville Beach are welcoming Andrea with open arms.

"Right now the storm is still south of us. The closer it gets the more intense it gets,” said Justin Fulford.

Fulford was just one of the many surfers out Thursday evening catching a few waves.

Wynne Harrington has lived in the Cape Fear region for most of us life and understands how quickly the tide can change.

"It's a real threat. Maybe not this one, but sometimes there are little storms and they whip up and intensify pretty quickly,” said Harrington.

Both men say that you have to be an experienced swimmer to surf in conditions like this. They say storms of any nature can be deadly and that it’s always best to be safe.
