WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The only leader the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has ever known is heading to the Sunshine State.

Today the board of directors for Tampa Bay Water voted unanimously to hire Matt Jordan as the utility’s new general manager.

“It is appropriate to say today that I am leaving the Authority feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment because of the work we were able to do together for the benefit of our customers,” Jordan wrote in an e-mail to the CFPUA Board of Directors. “We knew creating an authority was not going to be an easy proposition and we faced many challenges. However, because of the quality work by our staff and the commitment of the Board, we were able to answer those issues and place CFPUA in a position to succeed.”

To take the job, Jordan will retire from CFPUA, which he has led as CEO since its inception in July 2008. His last day will be June 30.

“I will always look back on my time here with a tremendous sense of pride,” Jordan said in his e-mail, “and I thank you once again for the opportunity to lead this organization.”

Jordan is expected to start his new job July 8 at an annual salary of $180,000.
