WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — At today’s City Council agenda briefing, Wilmington’s fire chief revealed his department wants to build another fire station.

It would go on Cinema Drive across from the movie theater.

Architects came up with four plans. The biggest and most expensive would be about 13,000 square feet and cost about $2.6 million.

Fire Chief Buddy Martinette says the new fire station would help his department consolidate and reach out to the community more.

is how Chief Buddy justifies the need…other than to say it will help him consolidate and “reach out to the community”.

If he can consolidate, and the consolidation cost savings equal the cost of a new fire station…have at it Buddy. Otherwise, you’re asking the taxpayers to foot another $Million dollar bunkhouse and garage.

Is not having a station in this locale impeding the fire department’s ability to fight a fire now?

From Carmike Cinema to the main station (Fire Dept HQ) on Market street, according to google maps.
I’m not so sure this new station is needed.

There was a report recently about firefighters not getting paid enough. Was that this department or another one?

The property has already been bought and the plans are under review. Plans are underway for the Carolina Beach Road/Shipyard area too.
