WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington boy is donating all of his upcoming birthday money to help replant Venus Flytraps recently plundered from a park.

Leo Jack is asking his friends and family for help so he can donate as much as possible to the recently created Flytrap Fund.

Leo’s sixth birthday is Monday, and he is intent on helping the rare carnivorous plants make a comeback.

“Because they’re interesting, and ’cause I don’t want them to be extinct,” Leo said.

The North Carolina Coastal Land Trust is offering up to a $1,500 award to anyone who provides information on the theft of Venus Flytraps earlier this year from the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden at Alderman Park.

With a family that has been around as long as the Rehders have, you would think that they would take the time and effort to get it right.

The news is always pronouncing Mr. Rehder,s name incorrectly. It is pronounced like “Reader” not “Reder” Thank you
