BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A fifth and final suspect is in jail charged with stealing more than $260,000 from a disabled veteran in Brunswick County.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says Lisa McClain is in custody after being arrested in Greensboro. She faces several charges in connection with the investigation. Her four alleged accomplices were arrested last year.

Investigators say McClain worked as an in-home caregiver for the victim and used that access to clean out the victim’s bank account.

Investigators say McClain and the other four women ran a debt consolidation/bill pay service business as a front to steal money from Nash. McClain allegedly paid bills to Time Warner Cable and Progress Energy, among other businesses, out of Nash’s account and pocketed the cash from her customers.

McClain also faces charges in New Hanover and Columbus counties according to jail records.

Send the leeches away for life. They don’t deserve to live!

This thief used to work for Wellcare and AssistedCare, and who knows how many other home care agencies in Wilmington. Such a shame that these agencies did not take action and properly report her to the authorities before so much damage had been done. I hope that this handicapped veteran has considered taking action against the agencies that employed this person and sent her into his home. These agencies are bonded and insured, and therefore need to assume responsibility for the actions of their workers that they send to people’s homes.
