Stephen King attends screening of Wilmington shot series

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A new science-fiction series filmed here in the Port City will soon make its way to a small screen near you.

"Under the Dome" is based on the best-selling Stephen King novel about a small New England town that is mysteriously shut off from the world.

Natalie Martinez plays a tough cop on the series. Thursday Martinez, along with her fellow cast members, watched a screening of their new show at Thalian Hall.

"Wilmington is one of those hidden gems that I really don't want people to find out about," Martinez said.

Dozens of media outlets from across the southeast were on hand for Thursday's screening. Even King made his way to Wilmington to promote the series. Mayor Bill Saffo presented the legendary author a key to the city.

Nikki Blount made the journey from Greenville for the event.

"I wouldn't have missed it," she said. "That was fabulous. Seeing the screening of 'Under the Dome' was the highlight of my entire day."

One of the things the cast members and crew said was that they loved shooting in our area, because people are so friendly and that Wilmington is a great place to live and work.

Filming for "Under the Dome" began in February in Southport and is still going here in Wilmington. The 13-episode miniseries premieres next week.

Mr. King...Spanish Moss in New England per video trailer?
Must be one heck of a Huge Dome with tons of humidity.
Ooooops!

"Mayor Bill Saffo presented the legendary author a key to the city". (Unquote)
One thing...That City Key "did not" include a new hotel privilege next to the Convention Center though :-( I hope Mr. King didn't sign anything from Saffo...or he may have inherited some City Debts that went with that key!
