Topsail Beach drowning victim identified

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Topsail Beach Police have identified a man who drowned off the coast Saturday.

Police Chief Sam Gervase says the victim was Stephen O'Rork, 36, who was vacationing from Greensboro.

Gervase says officers received a call at 12:49 p.m. Saturday from someone who thought they saw a body in the water. He says 40 minutes later, another call came in that people on the beach saw the body in the surf near the Jolly Roger Pier and brought it to shore.

Gervase says O'Rork leaves behind two young children.

Steve was my mother's next

Steve was my mother's next door neighbor and was very close to her. I have had the opportunity to spend time with Steve and his family at BBQ's my mother hosted and they are a great family. My heart goes out to Steve's family and they are in my families prayers.

I'm friends with Theresa's

I'm friends with Theresa's cousin Jenn, and my family and I send our deepest sympathies to the family and want to let them known they all are in our thoughts and prayers. May God be with them in this time of need. God Bless.
