READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- Local clergy and community supporters will call for a Cease Fire throughout the City of Wilmington during a news conference scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at 14th & Dawson Streets (plaza area of Hillcrest Housing Community).

The pastors will be joined by Chief Ralph Evangelous and other community supporters in a united stand against the recent rash of gun violence in the City of Wilmington.

Over the past few days, there have been dozens of shootings, reports of shots fired and two teenagers have been murdered. One was in Wilmington, the other in Leland.

Police officers were also called in Friday night on their time off to help patrol hot spots.

By the way, posting the

By the way, posting the picture of a gun with this story is misleading but very liberally politically correct. This "news" organization should post the pictures of the thugs. My guns have not harmed a soul and never will unless I or someone else takes up the gun and commits the act. The guns will lay in a drawer or vault and never harm a soul until someone takes it up and uses it improperly. The media seldom has the guts to attack the thugs and hoodlums committing the crimes. They had rather attack law abiding citizens and make sure their constitutional rights are forfeited in the name of political correctness.

so true

I do not have a gun and never will, but you are correct about having the thugs pic's there and not the gun.

It is about time the

It is about time the community stood up for itself in this situation. It is a wonderful thing for the clergy to lead the charge against the thugs and hoods destroying Wilmington and other areas. I really hope they can have an impact. However, if the people who are doing the shooting were the type of folks who listen to the preachers of our world, they wouldn't be shooting other folks in the first place. Vigorous, aggressive law enforcement efforts combined with swift, sure, severe punishment should be blended with these community efforts and hopefully, together the desired outcome will be achieved. It will take the community, the clergy, law enforcement and the judicial system working together to be successful in ending the violence. Let's watch and see which one is the weak link.

That should work!!

I'm sure the criminal scumbags in this town will see the light and lay down their guns and become choir boys!

Another useless waste of time by "the clergy" resulting in nothing.

As long as the "witnesses" continue to see "nothing," nothing will change.

Let's see if the gang

Let's see if the gang bangers go along with this. I suspect it will be adhered to by just those that were already obeying the law. This is really just a photo op for Evangelous.

What?

A Cease fire? This indicates that a war is taking place and that the quiet-ness will be temporary.
Clergy, community leaders and family need to step up and get their family members out of gangs. Gang members should be banned from housing projects along with drug dealers. Anyone convicted of a felony should also be banned.

I wonder what some of these folks will do when they are required to pass a drug screen to get housing assistance?
Gang related violence is a scourge and needs to be addressed by all parties involved especially families, and judges.
