WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Just hours after area clergy joined police to call for a cease fire of gun violence in Wilmington, more shots were fired in the Port City.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says the city’s ShotSpotter system picked up eight shots in the 900 block of Greenfield Street around 7:15 last night.

Investigators say the shooting involved people in two cars shooting at each other. Witnesses say they saw a charcoal colored Mazda or Nissan car in the shooting.

Police say they are receiving tips from the community, but they have not made any arrests in the case.

The gangs are going to start killing white people next. This whole city is in danger. MARK MY WORD

Did they think Prayer did anything Effective? Foolish to assume that those with the guns and the drugs are going to start being nice because some hypocrites told them to! Please! Bet you this, all who are out killing others for their drugs and money, all go to some church! That you can see is pretty OBVIOUS!

If the gang members were afraid of being shot they wouldn’t be gang members. You think fear of being shot by police would discourage them when fear of being shot by other gangs does not? Your idea makes no sense and would only
serve to radicalize others against the police and possibly provoke retaliation

didn’t attend the Chief’s little get together yesterday…or don’t really care what he or the ministers had to say. I’ll take the latter…over the former.

Sorry Ralph…the thugs only understand one thing…thuggery. If you’d allow your officers to “drop a few” in the streets…they’d get the message.

You’re one of those who place all of the blame for your kids failings on a teacher, right?

What ever happened to the special unit that was so supposed to stop this from happening. Chief makes about 140 grand a year. How about some results

The worst thing that ever happened to Wilmington was the building of large communities of public housing near downtown. Nothing against poor people (I grew up white trash in a trailer in Zionville) but when you concentrate that much poverty and ignorance in one area you are going to have crime regardless of race. The closing and conversion of Nesbitt Courts is a prime example of an immediate improvement in crime and quality of life to a neighborhood. Public housing should not be on prime real estate.

I’ve been saying that forever but nobody listens to me! Maybe they will listen to you?

Who here really thought it would work? The gangs don’t give a rats patootie about anyone other than themselves. They are like cockroaches – coming out of the woodwork. Hard to get rid of, but it can be done if people would stand up against them.

Let them get rid of each other, eventually it will solve itself. I say give them more ammo and cut em loose and yes lots of innocent people will die however we have done the same thing in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and New Orleans. Yup New Orleans very few really know what really happened after the state was is turmoil…

Get drugs off the street and problem solved.

  • Guest123 says:

Notice the gangs seem to be in certain areas? Why not bulldoze Creekwood and all the other gang areas and put in high income housing. Problem solved. Low pay, low education, no parental guidance equals gangs and drugs every time. Very fed up and will not be going downtown unless light out.

I am so hoping one of them tries to mug me downtown one night

Yep, those pastors made a real inroad to stopping violence in the black community. These fine, outstanding members of this community are only blowing off some steam. I mean it is hard avoiding the cops all day, selling drugs and gangbanging all night so you have to get some relief. Prayer really works, keep up the good job!

  • Erlkoenig says:

The problem is not warm and fuzzy get togethers but a lack of parents. Until this is acknowledged the chief is just wasting time on photo ops.
