Area unemployment rates rise from April to May


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- County unemployment rates for May have been released, and every county in our area saw rates increase from April.

Bladen County continues to have the highest rate at 12.0 percent, while New Hanover County is still below nine percent at 8.8 despite the increase.

Brunswick and Columbus counties each saw the biggest increase in the area from April to May.

The Wilmington metro area unemployment rate is 9.2 percent. That's down from 9.5 percent a year earlier.
