WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Construction workers found a sinkhole at Orange and Jasmine streets in Wilmington this morning.

They say they noticed the hole in the road on their way to work, so they put cones up to keep anyone from driving into it. But Allen Young says he and his crew were not the first ones to notice the hole.

“Whenever we seen it, somebody had already placed a small cone, you know, like someone had tried to put warning signs up,” Young said.

A city spokeswoman says crews are working to fix the sinkhole, but they do not know what caused it yet. She asks anyone who comes upon a sinkhole or pothole to report it immediately by calling (910) 341-7879.
