WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are searching for a man who they say pulled a box cutter on a cyclist in Wilmington, and then took off on his bicycle.

Wilmington police say it happened around 9 p.m. in the 800 block of Chestnut St.

The victim told police he was heading to a friend's house on his bike when a man flagged him down.

He says the man then tried to sell him drugs. That's when the man pulled a box cutter on the victim, holding it to his neck.

The suspect took off on the bicycle, which is a black cruiser with white writing, toward N. 8th Street.

The victim says he was a black male in his 30's, about 5'8" and 160-170 lbs. If you have any information on the suspect, call Wilmington police.

Mugged after dark

My buddy got assaulted/mugged in historic downtown about a month ago. Two guys knocked him down, went through his pockets then kicked him in the head for his trouble, left him with a concussion.

Wish the focus was less on the "Click it or Ticket" and "Booze it and Lose it" PR campaigns and more on protecting us from actual criminals.

Yep

Carry that concealed weapon with permit and then when the next thug tries to rob you cap his ass. If thugs were more concerned about who has a weapon and who doesn't this junk would slow considerably.

Finally!!!!! Some thug has

Finally!!!!! Some thug has heard about the "cease fire".

Historic District Crime--Street Robberies Occur

I keep telling my new historic-resident neighbors how dangerous this area can be after dark. Two weeks ago I was exiting my car in my driveway when I was approached by a young man with a menacing expression on his face.

As he approached, I pushed the horn button on my key remote, and the horn blasted away like crazy. He turned and walked the other way. Robbery is what I think he had in mind. There have been many street robberies around here.

I would like for WWAY to publish a report of downtown crime beginning January 2013. Downtown and the historic residential area are not safe at night. The mayor and police chief may deny it, but I--having lived here for 18 years-- know better.

Downtown really IS NOT safe

Downtown really IS NOT safe unless you stay on a main street that is well-lit. I was pushed off my bike and robbed in April by Calico Room. I now carry a concealed weapon with me for that reason.
