WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A movie filmed in the Wilmington area will air on UPtv July 13 and 14.

It’s called ‘The Perfect Summer.’ It’s about a computer nerd who learns to surf to impress the cute girl next door.

The cast shot scenes in Wilmington, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.

One of the movie’s leads, Eric Roberts, has filmed several movies in Wilmywood and said the industry in Hollywood East has improved immensely over the years.

“What I’ve seen change are the crews. The crews weren’t incredible. They were fine but now they are incredible. All the crews down there. You know what to do and how to do it, when to do it and who’s the best at it.”

You can watch the movie on UPtv at 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

I watched it with my wife Sat night. Not my kind of movie but it was fun seeing the local landmarks and our own Sydney Penny.

My wife is suggesting(fantasizing?) I have my hair cut to look Eric Robert’s and get an earring. I’m not sure I could pull off the aging surfer look.
