NAGS HEAD, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- A contingent of Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue team members turned in a remarkable performance to capture the overall championship at the 2013 United States Lifesaving Association’s South Atlantic Regional Competition held at Nags Head on July 10th & 11th. The team’s first place finish is a testament to their exceptional ocean rescue skills, superior athletic ability, and unwavering commitment to excel.
This event featured the best lifeguards from 17 USLA agencies within the South Atlantic Region, ranging from as far north as Virginia Beach, Virginia to as far south as Ponte Vedre Beach, Florida.
While Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue competes in the “small beach” division of the Regionals (for agencies with less than 100 lifeguards), the team dominated the entire event by outscoring all of the “large beach” organizations. This is the first time in the history of this competition that a “small beach” team has outclassed their larger counterparts.
“A very remarkable accomplishment to say the least” said Ocean Rescue Director Dave Baker. He went on to state, “This achievement would not have been possible without the generous donations and support from numerous individuals and business. Their actions and belief in our program made it possible to travel to the Outer Banks and showcase our talents during this multi-day event. Thank you to the community of Wrightsville Beach, and I hope we have made you proud of our accomplishment.”
