RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The replacement for a longtime state House member who resigned when confirmed to the North Carolina Utilities Commission has been seated at the legislature.
Rep. Roger Younts of Davidson County took the oath of office Monday in the House chamber before the evening floor session. The bank employee and county Republican Party treasurer will serve out the remainder of Jerry Dockham’s term through the end of 2014. This year’s General Assembly work session is expected to end this month.
Gov. Pat McCrory formally appointed Younts after he was elected by Davidson County Republican leaders in Dockham’s district last Thursday. Younts voted for himself and won by a 3-2 margin. Some local Republicans didn’t like the process and how Younts and others prevented one local GOP leader to vote by phone.
