PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Alcohol may have been a factor in a head-on crash in Pender County Sunday that killed two drivers and one child, and left another with serious injuries.

Troopers say it happened on Highway 11 near Tate Road in Willard around 7 p.m.

They say 26-year-old Willard woman, Jessica Lynn Carr, was speeding in a mustang when she crossed the center line, hitting another car head on.

37-year-old Willard woman, Tammy Rae Giddens, was driving the car that was hit, with her two children in the back seat.

Troopers say Carr, Giddens, and Giddens’ 6-year-old daughter, Lucy, all died in the crash, and her 3-year-old son suffered serious injuries.

They say both children were in car seats at the time of the crash.

Trooper Wilson says the young boy was transported to Chapel Hill to be treated for his injuries.

He says investigators are waiting on alcohol tests to come back.

Shouldn’t we wait to see if toxicology report says alcohol, may be involved? Maybe she fell asleep, texting or talking on her cellphone. Whatever the report says, we need to keep in mind that we lost 3 people in a tragic accident. My heart and prayers go out to both families
I’m sorry for your loss. Also, I hope all goes well for the boy who survived!

Sleeping, texting, talking on the phone? You think that these are less offensive than alcohol. Anything, short of her having a seizure or some other unforeseen medical event, is an unacceptable cause of the accident.

Regardless of the cause at least two innocent people are dead and another innocent is in the hospital. I pray for that little boy and the family of the three who died.

The alcohol was the cause or they would not have speculated. Regardless the other driver, Ms Carr, was in the wrong whatever she was doing. SHE WAS SPEEDING!!!!
