WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Deputies are investigating after a woman was shot during a home invasion in Wilmington overnight.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. at 7101 Alamosa Drive.

A spokesperson with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says a woman, Darla J. Scott, 55, was asleep in her bed, when she woke up to a man in her bedroom.

"I've been shot," Scott told a 911 dispatcher. "It's a home invasion. I've been shot."

Scott told deputies she yelled for the intruder to leave after he demanded that she give him her "stuff."

That's when the man shot her in the shoulder, taking items from her bedroom on the way out of the house. Scott told a 911 operator blood was pouring from her shoulder. EMS treated Scott's shoulder wound, but she refused to go to the hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies say another man was also inside the home, and a car was waiting for the suspects on the side of the house.

Scott described the suspect as a black male, who was about 5'9", wearing a red, hooded sweatshirt. She said she could not identify the second man in the house.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 798-4162.

Hope they get more than just

Hope they get more than just a misdemeanor charge someone tried to assault me with a weapon and they just let him sign his name and walk out of jail. When it comes to Wilmington they act like they don't care about the victims safety. But when you handle it yourself they try to slap you in prison. Thank God Wilmington has the right to bear arms.

Missed the message

Can you believe that???? You know these guys went to church Sunday and still missed the message about the "Cease Fire". Can you beat that????
Until the public begins to identify the shooters to the cops and the court system begins to deal out swift, sure, severe punishment, the shootings will continue.
Have mercy on the poor soul who shoots one of these thugs in self defense. He/she will have to live the life of another Zimmerman unless the prosecutors have the guts to stand up to the politicians and do the right thing with a self defense case.

And for a change of pace

And for a change of pace another crime committed by a black male in a hoodie.

Can

SOMEONE please kill these idiots next time!

I'll do my part. . .

I just printed the paper work online to get another gun permit so I can have more than one in the house. I will certainly do my part if someone tries to come in my house. This is out of control and we, the people, have got to stand up and do all that is possible to help stop it.

Shotgun - no permit

Shotgun - no permit required! Quick, easy, and the sound of a pump action is usually enough to get someone to stop in their tracks.

My husband and I have talked

My husband and I have talked about getting a gun, but funds are limited. About what cost would we be looking at for a shotgun?

a shotgun is like 150-200

a shotgun is like 150-200

hollow point bullets

You can shop around for prices and check all the stores. You need hollow point bullets in the gun. I like a revolver because there's no pulling back to load the chamber, etc and you don't have to worry about a clip. Just point at the noise in your house and shoot. You need to go somewhere and practice with it so you will know what to expect with the "kick" from the gun. Of course tell anyone who may think they can walk in your house during the night with a key to NOT do that, ever. Before you bleeding hearts start correcting me I assure you no one who knows me would come in my house during the night without calling first. You can get a revolver for around 250.00 at a lot of places. There is a place close to the corner of Kerr and Wrightsville Ave. I think it's called Blackwater but I'm not sure. You'll see a sign for guns, it's on the left just before you get to W'ville Ave. They are reasonable.

Depends

With anything the price can vary. $350 as stated is probably average. But you can buy some brands such a savage, or maverick for less than $250. It's more than worth it in the long run...

12ga

Remington Model 870 will cost about $350.00.

00 Buckshot, a dollar a round.

Peace of mind - can't put a price on that.

Right On!

If you don't have a shotgun in your house, in my opinion, you're part of the problem. I agree with the argument " no material goods are worth anyones life" I just would like to add "especially mine" to the end of that statement.

Remington 870

That's what I got. Great shotgun at a great price. Shooter's Choice was very helpful and made sure I was completely comfortable with how to use it before I left the store. I feel better knowing I could defend my family if needed.

handgun is better for middle of the night breakins

If you wake up during the night with someone in your bedroom you aren't going to be able to get out of bed and get a shotgun. A hand gun in the drawer by your bed is the answer. Besides, you have a family meaning children and you don't want a shotgun leaning up in the corner. Not a good idea.

Thugs

Back in march, some low life thug in a ski mask broke into my house at 2:30 am, and went after my roommate.

If it hadn't been for the sound of her very loud screams I would have likely slept through the whole thing. There is nothing worse than waking up to a man in a ski mi standing in the middle of your living room. Then not hearing your roommate scream anymore, fearing the worst. Luckily she was okay, just VERY SHAKEN up. Then again, so was I.

Those were the longest six minutes of my life, running to my room, slamming the door, talking to the 911 operator, praying that my roommate was okay, that there was no one else in the house, and that he wasn't coming next for me.

I agree a shot gun in corner, not a good idea. Too easily spotted. A hand gun, yes.

glad you are both okay

I hope you have a hand gun now. Remember, hollow points... NO ONE will get past that. Glad you are both okay. Such a horrible experience for both of you.
