WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Deputies are investigating after a woman was shot during a home invasion in Wilmington overnight.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. at 7101 Alamosa Drive.
A spokesperson with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says a woman, Darla J. Scott, 55, was asleep in her bed, when she woke up to a man in her bedroom.
"I've been shot," Scott told a 911 dispatcher. "It's a home invasion. I've been shot."
Scott told deputies she yelled for the intruder to leave after he demanded that she give him her "stuff."
That's when the man shot her in the shoulder, taking items from her bedroom on the way out of the house. Scott told a 911 operator blood was pouring from her shoulder. EMS treated Scott's shoulder wound, but she refused to go to the hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies say another man was also inside the home, and a car was waiting for the suspects on the side of the house.
Scott described the suspect as a black male, who was about 5'9", wearing a red, hooded sweatshirt. She said she could not identify the second man in the house.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 798-4162.
