CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — One WWAY viewer caught a glimpse of something you might not see very often on the north end of Carolina Beach.

An alligator was spotted at the shoreline Sunday, and Jeremy Kelly was even able to snap a picture of it, before police and wildlife officers moved the reptile.

No word on how the reptile got there, or where it was taken and released.

Must have eaten someone’s beach pass.

There are many alligators on the Island, especially in the Buffer Zone area. There has always been one around the pipes between Kure and Carolina Beach. The Dredge Pond has Gators and around the old Dow Plant. The south end of the Island, the marsh areas near the ferry, has plenty of gators. The Aquarium will tell you that they are native to this area. Just like the Deer, Bears, Coyotes, and Fox, the Island has lots of wild life. Always has been and always will be.

Do you know if there have ever been alligators on the little island across from trails end. We camp on that island with small children.

There’s a dance you can do if you’re drunk like me, get down and dance horizontally.
To hell with later, all you young tomatoes, don’t ask the waiter, he’ll just tell you to get down and do the alligator.
The gator squirms around down on the ground, he don’t ever have to worry ’bout falling down—

I would take a guess and say that it probably swam over from Masonboro Island? Not really that strange.

If you think that might be a problem it would have been a good idea to find out prior to camping there.

  • See a compilation of material on the Alligator dance at the homepage above.

Well maybe one day people will start believing in global warming. A gator was caught at falls lake in Raleigh, we’ve never had gators that far in, in nc when will people start making a change
