WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — CFCC rewarded three lucky students by giving them the tools they need to succeed… literally.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, three graduating students from Cape Fear’s Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration program received $4,000 worth of tools today. The students say the gift is an incredible savings as they start their careers.

Award winner J.P. Porter says finding work in this economy is not easy. He says he spent eight years in the Marine Corps before attending UNCW to pursue business. But after two degrees and still no job, Porter said he needed a new career path.

“So here I am at Cape Fear, and in less than a year, I already have a job in the heating and air industry,” he said. “And the potential for this industry is unlimited.”

After receiving hundreds of dollars worth of tools he’ll need, Porter says it feels like Christmas in July.

To qualify for the gift, students had to have a 3.0 GPA.

Along with Porter, students Keith Lee and Kenny Wright also received tools.
