WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Palace officials say the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy this afternoon.

The infant is third in line to the British throne after Prince Charles and William.

Reports say Prince William was by his wife’s side the whole time at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

Many of you here in the Port City were following the royal couple every step of the way.

Mark Briggs loves “football” or better known as soccer here in the states.

He spends much of his time coaching the sport he loves, but Monday he took a little time to celebrate the “big news” back home.

“I was actually on Skype with my parents back home when my little sister screamed out the window, “She’s had the baby,” said Briggs.

Briggs is from a small town outside of Birmingham, England.

He says his family across the pond is ecstatic about the birth of the newest royal.

“Everyone is very proud to have the Queen of England….and all the rest of the monarchy,” said Briggs.

He says he has not followed the story closely, but says this is a historical day for the monarchy.
