BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — For the second time in a year, the Town of Belville has an opening on its governing body.
James Sheehan resigned from the town’s Board of Commissioners last night.
“Due to family issues, I am unable to fulfill my duties as Commissioner,” Sheehan wrote in his resignation letter. “I hereby tender my resignation effective immediately.”
Commissioners appointed Sheehan in August 2012 to finish out the term of a seat left empty when Jack Batson quit as mayor and was succeeded by Commissioner Mike Allen.
Sheehan’s replacement will finish the final four months of his term.
Friday Sheehan filed paperwork to run for one of the two seats open on the commission in November. There are now only two candidates running for those seats.
Sheehan did not immediately return a call for comment.
