Wilmington Teen Attends JDRF Children's Congress in Washington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington teen represented North Carolina at the JDRF Children's Congress in Washington. He was one of 150 children with Juvenile Diabetes from around the country that gathered to lobby congress.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Children's Congress was held on Capitol Hill on July 10. Carr Bender was among five children representing North Carolina as a delegate. He went to rallies and hearings to garner awareness and support for Type 1 Diabetes.

Carr met North Carolina Senators Kay Hagan (D-NC) and Richard Burr (R-NC) as well as Representative Mike McIntyre at the event. He also had his photo taken with Vice President Joe Biden. He was excited to join with American Idol Finalist Crystal Bowersox as well.

According to their website, "JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic plan to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until it is no longer a threat to anyone."
