VALE, NC (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory has toured portions of Lincoln and Catawba counties where heavy rains led to flooding and property damage.

McCrory met with local leaders to survey the damage and discuss how the government can help. The officials estimated road damage at $5 million so far.

McCrory said he was willing to tap into state reserves to help pay for road projects. The governor said he was directing the state Department of Agriculture to look for programs to help farmers impacted by flooding, and that he was also checking with federal authorities about low-interest loans available for homeowners.

Officials in Catawba County have formally requested disaster assistance for hundreds of victims of last weekend’s flash floods.

Homeowners insurance doesn’t cover flood damage.

it is good to see that the governor can get his head out of his rear and get out of Raleigh to see what working folks have to deal with every day. Can’t wait until 2016 elections.
