BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff has fired a detention officer charged with assaulting an inmate.

The Sheriff’s Office says the SBI charged Sgt. Henry Michael Williams, 51, of Bolivia, with one count of misdemeanor simple assault. Williams is accused of assaulting James Matthew Cain Wednesday by pushing him down to the ground while Cain was in leg restraints. Cain was in jail on a charge of misuse of the 911 system.

Williams had worked at the jail since Oct. 2, 2002. He is out of jail on a $500 unsecured bond.

    And yet again another one bites the dust. I know he was such a good officer.

    Definitely not a good officer… he got what he deserved.
