WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say a 6-year-old boy was home alone when a robber broke into his home.

They say the crime happened Monday morning around 7:30 a.m. on the 700 block of S. 11th Street.

A neighbor, who did not want to appear on camera, said yesterday was the first time the mother had left her son alone while she went to work.

She also added she saw the intruder walk toward the back of the house on her surveillance camera. Police say that’s where the suspect broke in. They found a brick through a window and a removed screen.

When the little boy saw the man come in, he hid and then called his mother.

The boy was not hurt but the robber got away with a Kindle Fire.

Police say they have not made an arrest.

This mother should be turned in for child endangerment!

Thankful that this ended up without the boy getting hurt or killed, but what would possess a mother to go to work and leave her 6 year old alone? There is NO excuse.

I hope she will be charged with child neglect or child endangerment. I hope they catch the would be robber

The age of six is too young to be left “home alone”.

Ok i have NEVER understood how parents can leave such a young child at home alone. Who gives a d@mn if he has a cell phone. Would this mother have left a million dollars cash in her house HELL NO she wouldn’t, and i believe my Childs welfare/life is worth a whole lot more than that.did he also cook his own meals, hey she left him a stove. Freaking nuts. She wins bad mother of the year award. I’m so angry from this and her no big deal attitude. I now hope people watch this house because she is probably gonna do it again. Now all the thieves or child molesters know where to go. WAKE UP LADY this its a big deal
