WILMINGTON, NC (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is holding another public hearing on designating hundreds of miles of beaches along the Southeast and Gulf costs as critical habitat for endangered loggerhead sea turtles.

Wednesday’s hearing in Wilmington is the second this week on the designation for 750 miles of shoreline. A third hearing is set for Morehead City on Thursday. The first was held in Charleston, SC on Tuesday.

The federal agency estimates that it will cost about $150,000 a year to administer the Endangered Species Act along the designated beaches. The number reflects the costs of government reviews of projects such as beach renourishment in the critical areas that might affect sea turtles.

Creatures ARE important, ALL of them. Humans are destroying this planet and its innocent animals. We have an obligation to save them seems we have done so much to destroy their world.

It would be nice if the government was as concerned about things that are really important as they are about these turtles.

The sea turtle people are worse than the tree huggers and bird worshippers. They are animals people lets make a big pot of turtle soup!!

I am all for protecting the turtles but don’t give the Turtle Nazis anything. This year I and many others have encountered some of the rudest, arrogant, volunteer Butt Holes yet. They do not own the beach though they wish they did and to yell at people and barking orders, someone is going to put them in their place and feed them to the sharks.

Another good reason to eat more turtle stew, turtle eggs, and don’t forget the dang “plovers”!
