WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- You are more likely to be struck by lightning or even be bit by a shark, but that is not stopping people from coming out to buy a ticket for tonight's $425 million dollar drawing.
Even though the odds are slim, 1 in 175 million to be exact, many people still dream about what they would do if they won the money.
“I would sell my house and buy a nice big boat and live on it my entire life,” said Jason Jenkins.
"Maybe give a two or three weeks notice at work and then get missing,” said Sherri Pagan.
Missing out on a chance to win millions is not something many want to do. That’s why some businesses are pooling their tickets to increase their chances at the cash.
"I don't know how many tickets we are totally going to get, but there is a potential to get 10 or 12,” said Chris Frazier.
When it comes to the numbers on the ticket some say you should not be too picky.
"It would be totally random. I wouldn't invest too much time on birthdays," said Pagan.
The big number on the board, $425 million is the third largest in jackpot in Powerball history. Even though people in 43 states, Washington D.C., and the Virgin Islands are playing, gamblers in the Port City are hoping to make history here.
“Hopefully someone will win (here). It would be great for Wilmington” said Oshey Allen, a cashier at the Shell gas station on N. 3rd Street said.
The winning numbers will be announced at 10:59 p.m.
