Star News: Wilmington man pleads guilty to Blockbuster parking lot murder

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsonline.com) -- A Wilmington man charged with a 2011 murder pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in New Hanover County Superior Court.

Charles Constantin Saliba, 32, pleaded to the 2011 killing of Michael Lamar Smith, 33, of Wilmington whose body was found in the passenger seat of a 2011 Mercury Mystique parked in a lot near the Blockbuster Video store, 5226 South College Road, about 8:30 a.m. March 24, 2011.

In addition to the murder charge, Saliba was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 30 to 37.5 years in prison.

When Smith's body was found, he had been shot three times. There was blood covering Smith's face, the steering wheel and the driver's-side door handle.
