Friends remember man crushed by vehicle

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A local Wilmington man crushed by a car on Wednesday was nicknamed the mayor of downtown.

Friends say Scott Noell, known as Scottie B., loved life and everyone in his life.

“I’m still in shock. It doesn’t seem like it’s real,” said Steven Borkowski.

Borkowski and Noell had been friends for more than 10 years and enjoyed hanging out at The Liquid Room in Downtown Wilmington.

“We called him the mayor of downtown for a reason, because he made it a point to meet everyone,” said Borkowski.

30-year-old Noell was killed Wednesday when the car he was working on rolled and pinned him on North Seventh Street.

Police say it was death by motor vehicle.

“I feel worst for the people that didn’t get a chance to know him. He was a very important part of my life and I’m a better person because of him,” said Borkowski.

Noell’s son Dominic turned 5-years-old on Wednesday. Borkowski says Dominic was the pride and joy of his father’s life.

“He would swell with joy every time he would talk about him,” said Borkowski.

The Liquid Room will host a benefit this weekend. The event “Sunday for Scottie” will be held Sunday at 8 p.m.

Donations will be accepted.
