WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Residents of Old Wilmington (ROW) is pleased to announce the homes on the 8th Annual Back Door Kitchen Tour, October 12, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nine kitchens are featured in the homes of Wilmington’s Historic District.

This year’s kitchen tour will include homes located at the following addresses:

502 S. Front St.
411 S. Front St.
210 Church St.
18 S. Water St., Suite 10, Brooks Building
520 Dock St.
521 Dock St.
512 Grace St.
214 N. 6th St.
206 N. 7th St.

The self-guided walking tour offers the convenience to tour on your schedule and at your own pace through the beautiful downtown residential area with trees draped in Spanish moss, brick and cobblestone streets, and historic markers/points of interest everywhere. Walking shoes are recommended for comfort and many homes have stairs. Trolley service will be available between homes on the day of the tour.

“The Back Door Kitchen Tour is a great way to take in the history, southern charm, and hospitality that Wilmington’s Downtown Residential District has to offer,” shared Paul Lawler, President of ROW. “This year’s tour offers a variety of homes to both inspire the gourmet chef as well as satisfy the appetite of your inner historian. It is a great Downtown event and proceeds are reinvested in the community making Wilmington a better place for all.”

Back Door Kitchen Tour tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under, and carried babies are free. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning August 23 through PayPal at www.rowilmington.org and early September at the following locations:

Greater Wilmington
>>Great Harvest Bread Company (5327 Oleander Drive)
>>Taste the Olive (1125-D Military Cutoff Road)

>>Cat on a Whisk (600-C N. Howe St.)

Beginning September 18, tour tickets will be available at all Wilmington-area Harris Teeter grocery stores. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the tour at each of the tour homes and at the Bellamy Mansion, 503 Market St.

Group discounts for tickets purchased in advance are available by contacting tickets@rowilmington.org. All funds earned by ROW from the tour will be utilized for Downtown projects. Past projects have included the Fifth Avenue reforestation project, the purchase and installation of the “Southern Hospitality” sculpture at Market and Water Streets, the Ann Street pedestrian and bike crossing, and the new display cases at Thalian Hall.
