WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Virginia man investigators have called a “person of interest” in the murder of his estranged wife has been arrested in Wilmington.

Wilmington Police arrested Sylvester Cheatham this morning. He is in the New Hanover County Jail on a fugitive warrant under $500,000.

WSET in Lynchburg, VA, reports the body of Arnita Cheatham was discovered August 2 at a motel in Amherst County, VA. An autopsy determined she died of blunt force trauma.

Investigators named Sylvester Cheatham a “person of interest” in the case and asked the public to keep an eye out for the victim’s missing car.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office would not comment on Wednesday’s arrest, WSET reports.

Cheatham declined to speak to WWAY from jail.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley refuses to say where and when police arrested Cheatham. She referred any requests for information to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators did not immediately return a call for comment.

Wonder if Sylvester Cheatham is related to Wilmington City Manager Sterling Cheatham, who is also from Virginia – Lynchburg, I think. If Sylvester Cheatham is related to the city manager, that’s probably why the police won’t tell WWAY where and when he was arrested. It does pay to have friends (or relatives) in high places!

There appears to be a strong resemblance between the two, both of their names start with S, both from Virginia and by all accounts, both are trash.
